Our Story

Thank you for your interest in getting to know more about me and my art journey! This is going to be a little long-winded, thank you in advance for your patience in reading!

 

My name is Eileen Tai, I’m based in a home studio located in Selangor, Malaysia. I have always loved art and all things cutesy and beautiful, but I did not have the opportunity to study nor explore art during my younger years.

 

I was the founder of TAI Online Store – a small, home-based stationery & lifestyle online shop founded in 2018. Through TAI Online Store, I have started the journey to pursue my dreams and passion.  Everything was going smoothly, business started to pick up and I had a clearer idea on where things were heading, but life did not always go as planned.

 

I was unwell for months and finally diagnosed with Systemic Lupus Erythematosus (commonly known as Lupus or SLE) in late 2019. Lupus is an autoimmune disease in which the immune system attacks its own tissues, causing widespread inflammation and tissue damages in the affected organs, in my case my kidneys were affected. I had to undergo 2 years of treatment in order to put my symptoms under control.

 

Lupus is a chronic disease and to date has no cure yet. It is a lifelong battle to keep it under remission. Although I’m in a generally fine condition right now, but some symptoms such as persistent severe fatigue, joint pain, brain fog, dry eyes etc is still troubling me at times.

 

In order to be kinder to myself and to ensure that my lupus does not flare up again (one of the most common triggers is stress, both mental and physical), I have decided to scale down my business and close down TAI Online Store for good. It was a very tough decision and I have procrastinated the longest time to finalize this, but deep down I know this is the right path to take because there is nothing more important than health right now.

 

On the brighter side, I get to focus more on creating my own art now! Scaling down is not always a bad thing if we know where we are heading, right? Flipping a new page in 2024, from TAI Online Store to Eileen Tai Studio, from reselling products to focusing on my own designs, hereby I would like to welcome you, my old and new friends into my art journey, sharing happiness and joy with you along the way 😊
